In the last month, I have written a book of first paragraphs for what I want The Alley Witch to be. This morning, I set my sacred circle. I cast a spell to call on the Muses for help. I am listening to classical music for the soul.
I am switching to decaf after this cup… I am going to find a way to put into words that I want it to be All of Us.
I am drawn to Melpomene, Muse, Goddess. Melpo meaning ‘To Celebrate with dance and song’, ‘The one that is Melodious’. Now commonly known as the Muse of Tragedy yet started out as the Muse of Chorus. For me Melpomene is a personification of self.
I was born a magical, loving, singing, free, open soul.
Then childhood trauma forced me to split myself apart, to Survive. I did and It is over, it has been for a long time. Now what? I know my full self is there. Every day She opens up her little eyes and peeks through a light fog of pain, guilt, and self-loathing that still lingers and she sings to me. She tells me I am Good, I am Free, I am Safe, I am Loved. Every single day since the first day I could no longer do it for myself. One day soon I am praying that when She opens her eyes the only thing in view will be the open sky, the fog will have lifted and She will be Me again. Melpomene dropping that fucking mask of tragedy and singing Love and Joy into the world. My life is filled with things to be Joyful for. Maybe the answer is out there helping other people.
After 30 years of regularly practicing magic, I know a few things for certain.
There are no rules, Love is the single most powerful spell component you can use and you need no deity, tools, prayers or special anything to access the magic that is inside of you. I want every person to feel loved and welcome. I want to share my knowledge of Magic, a little bit of everything. I want acceptance here. I want warmth. I want love. I want to teach people how easy it is to ask for help from the Universe, Diety’s, Spirits, Animal guides, Self, Whatever any individual chooses to call on. There is something for everyone. For me there is Freedom.
